So many people believe that watermelon is made up of only water and sugar, but watermelon is actually considered a nutrient dense food!   Watermelon provides a high amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for a low amount of calories.

Medical News Today shares that Watermelon also has health benefits:

Asthma: is lower in people who consume high quantities of Vitamin C and Watermelon is one thing that is high in Vitamin C.
Hypertention:  The American Journal of Hypertension found that watermelon extract supplementation reduced ankle blood pressure and improved arterial function.
Digestion:  Watermelon is high in water and fiber content! The extra fiber and fluid helps to prevent constipation and promote regularity for a healthy digestive tract.

Hydration:  It is true watermelon is made up of 92% water.  That water is full of important electrolytes which help prevent dehydration during the hot summer months!
Inflammation:  Watermelon contains Choline.  Choline is a versatile nutrient in watermelon that aids our bodies in sleep, muscle movement, learning and memory. Choline also helps in maintaining the structure of cellular membranes that aids in the transmission of nerve impulses.  Choline also assists in the absorption of fat and reduces chronic inflammation.
Skin: Watermelon is great for your skin because it contains vitamin A.   Vitamin A helps in the growth of all bodily tissues, including skin and hair.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen watermelon cubes
  • 2 Tbsp fresh lime juice
  • ½ banana
  • 1 teaspoon maple or agave syrup
  • ½ to 1 cup coconut water
  • boost it with a: pinch of cayenne

Instructions

  • Combine the watermelon, lime juice, banana, sweetener and ½ cup coconut water in ablender.
  • Turn on blender to low speed to get things moving.
  • Slowly add more coconut water and blend, increasing the speed to high until the mixture blends into thick, frosty bliss.
  • Pour into glass and enjoy!

  3. Ohhh yummy! I would love this.. I wouldn’t add any spicy to it though since I hate spicy (although I do take cayenne in supplement pill form) anyway I would change the sweetener to stevia and probably use unsweetened almond milk but looks good.

  4. I love watermelon. I am going to try this recipe. There’s nothing better than a ripe sweet melon in the summer.
