Gluten-Free Vegan Brown Rice Meatballs

This Brown Rice Non-Meatballs Recipe will make you a believer in plant based eating!

I had this fabulous plant based meatballs recipe sent to me by my sister who asked that I post it for everyone who loves eating vegan and gluten free!  The pic is of her “meatballs”.   I have had them before and they are soooo yummy. Thanks Carol!

There are many companies now that make pre-made vegan meat substitutes.  But I have found mostly ALL the companies have gluten in their products.  I cannot eat gluten so I’d rather make my own meat substitutes.  Besides so many of the products that are premade contain all kinds of unhealthy additives such as Textured Soy Protein Concentrate, Methylcellulose, Soy Protein Isolate, Vital Wheat Gluten Flour, Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, and Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Pea Protein.  Some products you can’t even find all the additives.  What the heck is Food Starch?  And do I want to eat so much Soy Protein additives?  Ahh NO!  Plus most hydrolyzed products are not good for you!

I know what is going in my homemade meatballs and the ingredients are healthy for me!  So enjoy this recipe.

Gluten-Free Vegan Brown Rice Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 c cooked brown rice
  • 1 c bread crumbs gluten free
  • ¼ c water
  • 1/3 c pecan meal
  • ½ onion minced
  • 1 T soy sauce gluten free
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 T nutritional yeast flakes
  • 2 T ground toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Form balls by hand. Drop 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a hot skillet. Cook until brown. Serve with your favorite spaghetti sauce or gravy. Freezes well. Yummy!

  1. My family loves spaghetti with meatballs – I use meat though. I wonder if they taste as good in the sauce…not sure if I would try them.

  3. very good recipe. did you hear about the recent articles about the high levels of arsenic in brown rice? I’m still eating it, just less of it – just in case. Consumer Reports had the big article, other journals are commenting.

    1. Rosie, no I hadn’t heard anything about arsenic in brown rice. Hmmm I will check it out thanks. Just when one believes they are doing something good for ourself by switching to brown rice then rumors of this? yikes.
