Well it has been awhile since I have checked in to let everyone know how my high protein, low carbohydrate eating and Smoothie drinking is going. Summer brings lots of company which seems to always throw me off track. I’ve maintained my weight loss but haven’t been able to lose any additional weight. I haven’t really been trying this summer to actively lose either so I guess maintaining is a good thing.

A few weeks ago I gave in and “treated” myself to a couple yummy pastries (Yes Gluten) from a fantastic bakery while I was travelling. I pass this place every time I travel between Anchorage and Homer. And the thought of a gooey almond bear claw dripping with sugary topping just took hold of my driving wheel and there I was eating a bear claw and a raspberry filled raised doughnut! That evening I had the most horrid abdominal cramps that kept me up all night. Needless to say I felt very bad for a few days and decided to give my tummy a rest with a few detox smoothies. So I thought I’d share a couple of recipes for detoxing if you should ever need to calm your belly. These recipes are inspired from ones given to me by the Avante Medical Center where I see my Naturopath.

I just love The Green Cardamom Detox Smoothie pictured above.

Green Cardamom Detox Smoothie Recipe

2 whole green cardamom pods

1 3/4 cup almond milk ( mine was homemade)

1 cup peaches – fresh, frozen or canned

2 tsp maple syrup

1/2 cup ice

BLEND all ingredients until smooth and pour into your favorite glass to enjoy!

Green Detox Smoothie

1 1/2 cup almond milk

1/2 cup coconut water

2 leaves kale, chard or other greens

1/4 avocado

1/2 cup mango chunks

1/2 cup ice

Blend all until smooth and enjoy!

Berry Tasty Detox Smoothie

1/2 cup fresh or frozen raspberries or berries of your choice

1 Tbs tahini

2 tsp maple syrup

1/2 cup pure water

Blend all and enjoy!

You would think I would know better!  It has taken my tummy a couple of weeks to finally calm down, thanks to these great Smoothies and getting that gluten out of my system!

  1. These are some fantastic smoothie recipes, and i really love my green smoothies the most, great way to start the day in the morning.

  2. While I know so many need to lose weight and the importance of being healthy I need protein smoothies and shakes in order to gain weight and I don’t eat carbs and most dairy and most meat. I have very limited availability with my diet and I need to stricly find ways to snack and gain about 5-10 pounds. But these smoothies look delicious. I might try one! I might overeat on the nuts though 🙂

  3. I wouldn’t have been able to pass the bakery up either! I always regret it afterwards tho! Congratulations on your weight loss so far!!! Keep up the awesome work! I also lost a bunch of weight on the same diet, almost 65 pounds!!

  4. Anytime I eat some kind of carb, I feel sick to my stomach. So sad as I love carbs! LOL. Smooties are a great way to keep me filled and feel like I”m getting a treat. I actually miss one if it’s been a while!

  5. I am learning so much more about gluten since reading these blogs’ reviews. Who knew?? This is why I eat yogurt all the time to get some “good” bacteria in me. I really believed that’s why people in the Bible fasted, to detox their bodies of all the impurities! I am going to PIN the above under HEALTH!!!

  6. These recipes are awesome. I’ve been having some tummy troubles lately so thinking maybe a detox might help make me feel better and less bloated.
