OATrageous Oatmeals Cookbook Review

I was offered the chance to review OATrageous Oatmeals by Kathy Hester.   I have reviewed other books of Kathy Hester’s; The Great Vegan Bean Book, The Vegan Slow Cooker and loved her recipes.   I know oatmeal can be used in many recipes other than just cookies and breakfast oatmeals, so I thought this book would be fun and very informational to review and share with my readers.

I am always thrilled when I can find a cookbook that is truly allergy friendly such as OATrageous Oatmeals!  This book is Vegan, soy-free and gluten-free!  In addition to the different ways to use oatmeal for breakfast, this book goes much farther and gives directions how to make DIY staples at home such as:

Oat Milk Yogurt, Creamy Cashew-Oat Cream Cheese, Oat Chez Powder (which is used in many recipes in this book), Golden Gravy Mix, Oat Sausage Crumbles, Pepperoni Crumbles, Southern Style Oat Biscuits and so much more!

Eating Gluten-Free you won’t feel like you are missing pastries because this book has so many recipes such for a variety of pancakes, oatmeals, waffles and granolas, even Butternut Squash Maple Walnut Scones, which will keep your breakfast covered!

Then Kathy breaks into the following recipe categories with all recipes using oats of some sort!

Satisfying Soups and Stews

Oats for Lunch and Dinner

Delightful Desserts

Drinks, Oat Milk and even Oat Liquor

Beyond the Dining Room:  Other uses for Oats such as:

Soothing Lavender Oat Bath Soak, Oatmeal Cookie Scrub and Cookie and treat recipes for your 4 legged friends!

  1. This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen in a cookbook! A cookbook that includes SCRUBS? So rad! Being GF, I use savory oats as the bases for many of my lunches and dinners, so I’m interested in what she has to offer in the lunch/dinner department! That loaf looks crazy good.

  2. I’ve been a vegetarian over 37 years, and always am looking for new ideas for meals. I have almost eliminated dairy, so this book would be a great way to explore entrees without animal products. I have an old ‘stand-by’ walnut-oat burger that I make about once a month, but I’d like to do more with oats!

    1. Oops! Supposed to read: I love gf oats–cannot tolerate gluten–and look forward to learning to use them more in my cooking!

  3. I am interested in using oats in baking, cookies, cakes, bread and even in using oats in main dishes instead of gluten options.
