Back to School

Getting your family prepared to head Back to School, can be difficult especially after a long, fun-filled summer. Here are a few of our favorite Back to School Tips to help you along the way.

1.  Medical Requirements for School –  Does the school have immunization requirements and are the kids up to date.   If you decide to not have your child immunized do you have the proper documentation so the kids can go to school?   Do I have to notify the school regarding food allergies?  I know our grandson would need to have the school be aware of his allergies to dairy, gluten, soy and nuts.   Are there medications that the school needs to be aware that your child takes?   My grandson has to have an epi-pen available so that would have to be kept with the school health person and they would need to know how to use it.

2. Back to School Supplies Checklist – Backpack? Check. Pencils? Check. Safety scissors? Not Yet. Use the same checklist each time you head out to grab supplies, to keep track of what you have already purchased and the things you still need to. These are also handy if you have more than one child. Simply print 2, 3, 4 list and add their name to the top.

3.  Prepare the Child for School – Begin talking about school beginning and that they will need to get up early and go to bed earlier in the evening.   Discuss with them how they will get to school and how they will get back home.  Will they be taking a bus, riding a bike, walking or carpooling to school?   Discuss with them or have arrangements made for after school care if you are not able to be home when school is out.

  1. I would have to say labeling everything you have 🙂 Also try to remember those in need if you can afford extra supplies get them and if you know a child gift it to them or send it to the school to give out, another place you could gift is local charities 🙂

  2. Start early. I always try to buy a year in advance. That way I have the essentials and then add in things that are requested with each new grade.

  3. Hello, I liked setting up a poster with child’s names and activities, ie: homework, book reports, brushing teeth and bedtime and each child got a star when finished. This kept them prepared for the school days ahead. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  4. Check all the ads to shop around for the best bargains before going shopping for your school supplies.

  5. My parents always took us on a dry run before school had started. Then I had an idea of where my classes were so I would not get lost on the first day. This was especially helpful when going to a new school!!

  6. make sure your child gets a lot of sleep! BTW what grade can kids buy their own school supplies – right now we spent ALOT of money buying our share of the classrooms school supplies which are passed around to everyone through out the year

  7. I always liked to walk the halls from my class room and find the bathrooms and library and other fun areas. I also liked going a few days ahead of time to go and meet my teachers and bring a small and simple gift.

  8. Buy cute new school supplies that the child likes so they will be excited to go back to school. (Maybe a liitle. Lol!). It worked for me but I’m a geek!

  9. Take time to meet your child’s teachers. It’s important to communicate with them on a regular basis.
