Silpat Giveaway

I have seen Silpat products when I have been browsing kitchen stores and wondered how they would work.  I was very happy to have the chance to try 3 of their products.  Silpat® Non-Stick Baking Mats are made of fiberglass and food grade silicone. Silpat® products are completely food safe. Silpat products are FDA, NSF® and Kosher certified.

Below you will find my review of the 3 products I received:  Roul’Pat Workstation, Silpain and Silpat.

Silpat Workstation: Roul’Pat Full Size, 16-1/2” x 24-1/2”

Roul’Pat® is a non-stick countertop workstation mat that has a specially formulated backside design, which prevents it from slipping or moving around on countertops and work surfaces.  I have granite counter tops and  I will tell you that it does not move!   It is the best anchored workstation I have ever used!   I wish I would have tried making a pie crust on it but I will use the workstation when I make my pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving.  I had plans that day to make some gluten-free biscuits.    I got everything ready to work with on the Silpat Workstation.

This workstation can also be used for working with sugar art, chocolate, fondant, caramel and candy. I am also told that the Roul’Pat® can also be a work surface mat for craft projects.  I am not into doing crafts but many of you are I know.  Nothing sticks to it, so it is great for use with glue, permanent markers and other messy craft projects. I can tell you that clean up is a snap, simply rinse and let dry.

Silpain® :  U.S. Half Size, 11 5/8” x 16 1/2” (290 x 415 mm)
Fits a 13” x 18” Pan

I mixed up my gluten-free biscuits and used the Silpain which is a non-stick baking mat for breads.   Although biscuits aren’t really a yeast bread, I thought it would be nice to see how they came out and I was very happy that the bottoms did not turn dark at all!   It left these biscuits with a perfect crusty light bottom.

Silpain® states that dough contains about 60-80% of water. When baking with dough it is important to use a Silpain® because of its perforated qualities. The water seeps through the mat, leaving a perfect crusty finish. Silpat recommends the Silpain for your homemade biscuits, pizza and bread.

The only thing I noticed was that the biscuits let flour residue through the perforated Silpain that had to be washed off the baking pan.   But this may just be something that gluten-free batters do since they do not hold together as well as grains with gluten.  The Silpain itself washed off easily with soapy water and I left it to air dry.

Silpat®:  U.S. Half Size, 11-5/8” x 16-1/2” (295 x 420 mm)

Fits 13” x 18” Pan

I have not used my Silpat yet but plan to see how it does for cookies for the holidays.  If it is any thing like the Silpain I know I will love it.  I use parchment for my cookies so they do not burn but having something that is reusable and that washes easily will be very nice.

Silpat® is the original non-stick baking mat. Silpat® products never need greasing and they can replace parchment paper. Using Silpat® products saves time, money and reduces waste in our environment.
