High Protein, Low Carb Diets: The Dukan Diet

There are some high protein, low carbohydrate diets that come highly recommended.  As most of you know I am doing a medically supervised high protein, low carb diet.  But, there are other programs that are high protein and low carbohydrate that operate all a bit differently.  So,  I thought I’d highlight some of the other high protein, low carb diet  lifestyle changes that might be of interest for you.   It is my belief that eating high protein, low carb is not a “diet” but a life style change and brings the easiest way to lose weight and maintain your weight.  I love this life style change.  So I recommend that you don’t think you  can go back to the way  you use to eat.   You can’t,  you will just regain all your long, hard lost weight.

The Dukan Diet  is the first high protein, low carb plan we will review, it is also low-fat.

It is the brainchild of a French doctor, Dr. Pierre Dukan, MD. Around a decade ago, Dr. Dukan revealed his proposed eating plan, and it took the world by storm. While it’s quite simple, the protein they rely upon is animal based, so for my vegan friends you may want to check out plant-based protein that can be used to replace animal protein.

The Dukan diet says that  you can eat anything you like for the rest of your life after you pass through their phases.   There are 4 phases that they recommend.  Phase#1  Protein,  Phase#2  Add vegetables, Phase#3  Introduces previously eaten foods,  and Phase#4  is your life long phase where they give  tips to help you continue eating the Dukan way.

Many people, including some well-known celebrities, swear by it, and use it to maintain their perfect figures. It’s rumored that Kate Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge, used the Dukan diet before her wedding to Prince William.     So The Dukan Diet may be one of the high protein, low carb diets you want to investigate.

  2. thanks for the info, i’m going to look into this. i’m not a big meat eater, but if i can do powdered protein with it, i think i could do it.

  3. My doctor just recommended this diet to me. He said as a diabetic it should be very helpful to have high protein and low carb.

  4. High protein and low carb is the only way my body will shed pounds. I have tried EVERYTHING on the market, and the minute I did the protein, the pounds started falling off! I am hypoglycemic and carbs are killers for me, I gain weight, feel awful, and get depressed. I just stay away from them.

  5. I’ve never heard about this diet plan but I am interest enough to do some research after reading your review. I am trying so hard to lose 35 pounds, it gets more difficult with each passing month, so far I’m down 10 pounds. I like the high protein aspect about the Dukan diet.

  6. I never heard of the dukan diet. I actually just started atkins but now that I read your review I am going to look more into this one too.

  7. I did the Atkins years ago. I went from 250 to 200 in aprox. 3.5 months. I haven’t gained any of it back, actually I lost another 20 lbs that I tend to yo-yo with. I really need to get back on it.

  8. I tried soooooo very hard to stick to this diet. I just could not. I was absolutely starving. I was crabby, my stomach was always growling and I had a constant headache. I was only on it for two weeks and lost about 8 pounds but it just wasn’t worth the terrible discomfort.

    1. Jo Ann… I could not do this diet either. I am on a high protein, low carb diet however and it is working fabulously…I’ve lost 30# and am not hungry! It allows much more food than the Dukan does.

  9. I have lost 30 lbs so far on the Dukan Diet with 30 lbs more to go. I found the diet easy to follow as I can eat as much as I want, within reason of course. NO measuring or counting, which I HATE doing. My only issue is that I am not a big meat eater and since this is BIG on meat, it is a bit of a challenge for me but I’ve gone down 2 pants sizes and 3 shirt sizes!!!
